Hot Topic Disney Princess Fan Art Contest Gallery

Bomb after bomb, Disney was going downhill ever since the loss of the legendary icon Walt Disney. But then in 1989, The Little Mermaid became the start of the Disney Renaissance. It release in theaters blew everything out of the water. The animation was top notch and gorgeous, the songs were incredibly catchy and memorable, and the characters were unbelievable. And with that, Disney earned its fourth Disney Princess Ariel.

Voiced by the lovely Jodi Benson, Ariel is your typical sixteen-year-old mermaid, but she is more than just a princess. She is adventurous, independent, and will do anything to get what she wants. Some people see her as whiny, but that is how a teenage girl is, and that perfectly captures Ariel due to her age.

Because of the impact, Ariel left on Disney fans, a lot of fan art and cosplays of her are insanely common and wonderful. The fan art ranges from cute and simple to beautiful and detailed. The cosplay can just be like the meet and greet ones you see at Disney World or Land, but some go all out. It is no wonder why Ariel is one of the most popular Disney princesses ever. Even after nearly thirty years since its theatrical release, The Little Mermaid will always be a classic the young and old will certainly enjoy.

Prepare to have the childhood feels (or have them be ruined) as you will see fan pictures of Ariel that Disney does not want you to see!

25 Speechless Beauty

via: pinterest.com

Even without her fishtail, Ariel managed to gain nice long legs that compliment her body shape. At first, she did have trouble since she has only known to swim for most of her life, but with the help of Eric, she learned to walk better. This redhead could be a fantastic model and pull it off well if she chooses to.

Would Eric approve, though?

This fan art makes Ariel look like she is having a blast posing. She really seems tho have come in her own here. They have done other Disney Princesses and it would not be a surprise if Ariel is the most popular for them. Eric is a very lucky guy to have someone like Ariel in his life.

24 A Bit Obsessive

via: frankincense.deviantart.com

Apparently, there is a theme of Ariel having that up-to-no-good look. Only this time, it features the stone statue of Eric. Many ideas are swimming through her mind, and yes, that pun is intended. What is funny is that Eric's face looks annoyed, but that might have been intentional for the sake of this fan art.

Frankincense's shading and detail might be simple, but it gets the job done with how great she did in this fan art. Perhaps this fan art might be a what-if scenario where Ariel is the villain and wants Eric all to herself. That can make some interesting fanfiction if there hasn't been one already. Even though she eventually became a part of Eric's world, a scenario where Ariel is up to no good sounds interesting.

23 Twisted Girl

via: jeftoon01.deviantart.com

If you like creepy depictions of Disney Princesses, then look no further than Jeftoon01's awesome yet horrifying fan art of Ariel! This adaptation of Ariel shows that she is hungry for some… horrific action. You can never see Flounder the same again due to his horrendous redesign in this fan art. Ariel also has an interesting design in this picture.

A fork for a hook? Definitely a yes!

Even though it can be somewhat sad to see your favorite Disney characters in a way that can ruin your childhood, sometimes it can be the coolest too. Horror themes are fun and scary if done right, and seeing Disney characters like Ariel fit into a theme like that sounds unique. No wonder Jeftoon01 created his Twisted Princess series.

22 Crossover Galore!

via: wbmstr.deviantart.com

Ever since Disney bought Lucasfilm, the thought of Disney and Star Wars together was either too cheesy or surprisingly awesome. Even before the purchase, crossovers of Star Wars and Disney was something that left our jaws dropping. Imagining the characters from Disney movies dressed as Jedi knights or Sith lords is thrilling!

Let's not forget the memorable Slave Leia outfit.

It seems Ariel is taking up the mantle for the Rebel princess and she rocks the outfit! Jessica Chancellor portrays the cosplay and it is probably making the boys drool. Big props to the photographer Manny Llanura for giving us a great shot. While it is somewhat mindboggling to think of Ariel in the outfit, but given how much skin Ariel shows, it surprisingly fits.

21 Fierce And Bold

via: lookhuman.com

Ariel is a staple character in pop culture. Even if you are not a big fan of Disney, you can tell she is a very popular character. There are many adaptations of Ariel in different situations, like a modern version to name an example. Here is one of Ariel in a more punkish appearance. Being completely covered in tattoos is a common way to show off your cool side.

This mermaid also rocks the piercings.

Knowing Disney, they want to keep their princesses squeaky clean and innocent, but artists are not afraid to make them miles far from their recognizable look. It is far better than doing things like using substances or having a drink. Sometimes it is best to let your inner punk rocker out!

20 Favorite Utensil

via: HollyBell.deviantart.com

Who remembers the scene from the movie where Ariel saw the fork on the dining table when she was in Eric's castle? Using it as a brush with such glee was not only hilarious, but the reactions from Eric and Grimsby were pretty much how we would react to see someone using the kitchen utensil as a hairbrush. HollyBell's depiction of Ariel is cute as well as enticing too.

Ariel's curiosity is one of her memorable traits.

Every time she sees something she has never seen before, Ariel would have a big smile on her face. She wants to learn more about what she is seeing and take in every minute of it. That is something that we love about Ariel, since she has fun, as seen from hanging out with Eric on land.

19 Stylish Fun

via: MimiReaves.deviantart.com

Cosplay is a fun activity whenever you are at conventions or Halloween parties. The imagination runs wild whenever you see someone cosplay as a character, but in a different getup. You wonder how they come up with the concept and how long it took for them to make the costume. Sometimes it ends up being quicker than the usual cosplay, as seen by Mimi Reaves' cosplay of Ariel.

This pin-up of Ariel is very ravishing, but also mild. It does not go too far, but Mimi is not afraid of taking risks. The seashell top adorned with pearls adds more detail and her shorts are frilly and cute. Plus, her hairpiece is adorable, complimenting the red hair and her outfit overall. Big props to this amazing cosplayer!

18 Not So Innocent

via: garthft.deviantart.com

Strangely enough, there were not any pirates in The Little Mermaid, which is part of the world at sea. This fan art made by GarthFT turns Ariel from a sweet and caring mermaid into a vicious and sadistic pirate and mermaid hybrid. What makes this fan art unsettling is the fact that she has Eric under her grasp, but not in a romantic way.

They are clearly enemies, and it seems Ariel has the upper hand. Poor Eric would suffer from drowning or meeting the blade's cut from Ariel's sword hand. The subtle references that include Sebastian and Flounder are also nice additions. Something about the art style gives off a comic book vibe, and for what the artist had in mind, it would be an interesting one to read.

17 Relaxing Moment

via: lie-chee.deviantart.com

There are some people who are just born to cosplay. Even those that do not exactly pull off the look still has great potential. Luckily for this cool cosplayer, she has got it under control. Hailing from Germany, Lie-chee takes on the mermaid and everything about this cosplay is perfect. The wig fits greatly on her and the seashell top plus fishtail compliments her figure.

Is there anyone who could pull this off better than her?

The idea of someone who was not born human becoming a Disney Princess is truly unique. Even though Ariel technically became one, in the end, thanks to her father's trident, it is still mindboggling to think about. Even though Ariel and Triton had a rocky relationship, the fact that the latter saw how happy she was shows that he is a loving father.

16 Serving Her New Master

via: kharis-art.deviantart.com

Well, would you look at that? It is another Star Wars and Disney crossover! Kharis-Art actually has a series revolving other Disney Princesses if they were in the Star Wars universe, and for what she has to offer, they are amazing! Unlike the other entry that has Ariel wearing Leia's slave outfit, the redhead is still in her normal apparel but decorated in tattoos, makeup, and being chained near Jabba the Hutt.

It is a thought-provoking concept of how this fan art came to be. Both Jabba and Ariel have tails, and according to the artist herself, Ariel became his favorite after capturing her. The redhead seems to have a tough persona going on, which might be the endurance she dealt with ever since being captured by the giant slug.

15 Time To Learn!

via: facebook.com (Manny Llanura Photography)

Imagining Disney Princesses going to your school might either be the best or worst thing thinkable. Commoners would have to be on their best behavior since they would be among royalty, and doing stupid stuff in front of them would make them look foolish and unapproachable. When you put Ariel in a school uniform like in this picture, then words would become a jumble.

Ali Williams is just undeniably attractive in this cosplay.

Who knows how many guys she made stop by and stare at her when she walked past them. The plaid in her school uniform screams awesome and the pose she gives is not only adorable but very charming. It would be no surprise if School Girl Ariel is her most popular cosplay.

14 Hipster At Its Finest

neatorama.com

Ever since the Hipster Ariel meme arrived on the internet, it eventually brought its way into other Disney Princesses. However, Ariel will always be the original hipster. Fan art and cosplay came around in a lot of conventions and not only are they amazing, but they can be funny too.

In this case, the beauty takes over.

Lily Le Roi as the hipster really knows what she is doing. While she is not trying to exactly replicate the look Ariel gives with the hipster glasses, Lily does it with class. The outfit and the pose were also put together nicely, especially with how the picture was taken. The Hipster Ariel meme might be a fad now, but the impact it brought on Disney fans and the internet will always be remembered.

13 Voluptuous Mermaid

via: j-scott-campbell.deviantart.com

Even though Disney movies are catered towards children, most of the time, adults can join them too, whether there are adult jokes, subtle innuendos, or character designs that can be seen as mature. Ariel shows off a lot of skin, but since she is a mermaid, that excuses the fact. Fan art is not afraid to make Ariel more adult then she appears to be.

J Scott Campbell is a master in making the Disney Princesses look mature but still have that charm we love about them, especially Ariel. The anatomy might not be realistic, but it is not supposed to. The gorgeous detail in this fan art holds no bounds and goes all in to make Ariel look insanely captivating. Plus, the jewelry on her is just amazing.

12 Shocking Discovery

via: UncannyMegan.deviantart.com

The scene where Ariel discovers that she has feet was one of the exciting moments in her life, despite sacrificing her beautiful sounding voice. She was so happy that she was determined to get Eric to give her true love's first kiss in order to become a human permanently. And then there is the realization of being unclothed from the waist down.

UncannyMegan truly captures the moment of Ariel seeing her feet for the first time, and you can feel the happiness she felt. The photographer did a great job making sure that the focus was on Megan's expression and her feet since it is more than likely she was in the same predicament as Ariel. Regardless, this cosplay of some sorts is delightful and appealing.

11 Not Quite Friendly

via: lolita-artz.deviantart.com

Photo manipulation might not exactly be fan art, but it comes with hard work when given to the right hands. Lolita-Artz's contest entry for Twisted Tales on deviantART gives Ariel a hauntingly beautiful image with an incredibly well-detailed background to go along with it. Something about that red smile really gives us the chills. The piranhas also add the scary aspect of this picture.

In the end, Lolita-Artz won the contest, and she definitely deserved it since this picture looks like it took up a lot of time and motivation to perfect it. It is all thanks to the original model, Fluffybunny29stock, for being able to give the artist a chance to create a beautifully thorough image. This enchanting picture of Ariel is twisted indeed.

10 Stunningly Subtle

via: Julia-Alison.deviantart.com

If there is anything mermaids in pop culture have brought into the minds of young girls, they probably wanted to become mermaids despite the fact that they are nonexistent. After Ariel, a lot of them dressed up as her and tried to sing just like her. If they were to see fan art like this, then they would be creeped out greatly.

This fan art is disturbing, but that is what makes it gorgeous. Julia-Alison poured her heart out into this masterpiece and show us another way to see Ariel. The fact that this was an assignment for a graphic design class she took, hopefully, she better aced it because this is not only amazing but simply breathtaking. Art like this takes up a lot of time.

9 Adorable Temptation

via: prywinko.deviantart.com

Prywinko's art style is something that is pleasing to the eyes. The bright colors help make certain parts of the artwork stand out. She is not afraid to be risqué to certain childhood cartoon characters, and wouldn't you know it, Ariel is one of them. When you take a look at Ariel's expression, you probably have a lot of thoughts running through your mind, some that are not so innocent.

But that's okay because that might be Prywinko's purpose. Ariel is a very endearing character and will always be remembered for the years to come. It is no wonder why there is a lot of merchandise whether it's from Disney World, Disney Land, or in stores like Hot Topic or Walmart. It might not pop out, but there is a high chance you will see something The Little Mermaid related to stores.

8 Part Of Your World

via: KurtFloyd.deviantart.com

Ever since Ariel saw a ship from above the water, her curiosity got the better of her and she wanted to see what the commotion was about. What she saw was something she had never seen before. It was the first time she saw humans and even feet, something she wanted to have. When the ship was struck by lightning, Ariel managed to save Eric from drowning.

Kurt Floyd's depiction of the scene is simply beautiful.

It was love at first sight for Ariel, but to her credit, she did get to know more about Eric when he found her on shore after giving up her voice to Ursula. She started falling more in love with him and would love to spend the rest of her life with him.

7 Just Relaxing

via: el-gamusa-art.deviantart.com

It seems that Ariel has caught you staring at her while fixing her long red hair. Not that she would mind at all. She is a very beautiful mermaid. This fan art made by El-Gamusa-Art is not only downright gorgeous but very vibrant and lively. Everything from the detail of the water, Ariel's luscious red hair, and her fishtail is drawn fantastically.

The reason why Ariel has red hair and a green fishtail is that they are complementary colors. They contrast very well that it makes Ariel pop out whenever she moves. Her seashell top also compliments the colors since they go great together. The color for Ariel's fishtail was also named after her when creating the Disney Princess. Apparently, there is more to Ariel than we thought!

6 Punk At Heart

via: rinrindaishi.deviantart.com

Here is another punk-themed version of Ariel! This is actually RinRinDaishi's first attempt at creating this beautiful artwork, and while the second version has improvements, the first one feels more authentic and down to earth. Unlike the other entry that has Ariel completely covered in tattoos, this one is more toned down and focuses on the emotion in this fan art.

Not only does it look peaceful, but also rather endearing. The tattoos in question have objects that relate to her, as well as having Eric's name since he is very important to her. Not to mention, the A+E inside the heart on her chest is very sweet, representing the precious relationship she formed with the prince. Good thing that they ended up getting married!

There's actually an almost-20 year history to the bad back joke towards the end of the movie.
